Holy Cross Orphanage Back To Home PageWe recently accompanied a small group from the school to one of the lesser known orphanages in Delhi. The group, known as the 'Dilli Club', has unofficially adopted this orphanage and has made a couple of trips now to bring toys, art supplies, clothes, and most importantly, the human touch. Plans to repaint the interior are underway and we will be returning in February to work on brightening up the rooms as well as their lives. It was a powerful experience listening to a few of the stories the caregivers related to us and how these children ' arrive' here. Train stations, trash dumpsters and the 'drop off basket' out in front are just some of the places these kids show up. As teachers, it was wonderful to watch those students who really were willing to put themselves out. Most of the clothes you see were donated by one of the teaching familys that have adopted a child from this orphanage. The reason the kids are so bundled up is that there is no heat in the building.1/22/01 |
