Just prior to the elections held in the disputed state of Indian Kashmir during late September and early October, three fellow teachers and myself flew to Srinigar to attend a wedding. Invited by our favorite carpet dealer, Mr. Mahdi, and reassured by a wedding invitation that included a disclaimer for personal injury and death, we took two days of personal leave and set off on our adventure. The linked galleries offer a glimpse of what we saw, aside from the hundreds of heavily armed Indian troops who I decided not to antagonize, but were everpresent.
The galleries include two of the wedding itself, truly a week long affair of which we saw one and one half days. One set of photos is just of some the women present - many who unveiled themselves as they entered the compound. Another large gallery,( be patient while it loads the thumbnails), is of the activity on and around where we stayed on one of the famous houseboats. The fourth set is of the miscellaneous images I captured on a brief trip to the mountains and around the town.
